“ I love wandering and wondering at nature, travelling anywhere and everywhere, sitting outside by a fire under the stars, music, practising yoga, swimming, growing flowers and veg, reading, making things, cooking and eating outside with my friends and family…….”
WHAT YOU LIKE ABOUT WHAT ORIEL DAVIES DOES
Oriel Davies is such a wonderful public resource and every exhibition offers something fresh, unexpected and exciting. I love how the gallery feels relaxed and welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds and is a lovely space to be in. I am impressed with how the gallery has continued to reach out and work with artists and members of the community even during the difficulties of lockdown. In my new role, I am looking forward to developing connections and friendships with lots of individuals and organisations from all around Newtown and the surrounding area.
A FAVOURITE CULTURAL ARTEFACT
I bought this vintage textile belt in a market in Ecuador more than thirty years ago. I love the rich colour palette, the mythical birds, animals and patterns incorporated into the design and the cheerful loops of glass beads embellishing the edges. It has been skilfully woven and hand crafted and must have been worn only on very special occasions. It reminds me that we all love beauty and dressing up and happy times.
