After university I worked in both the private and public sectors predominantly in research roles. My work included commissioning academic research and applying this to inform national PR campaigns for issues such as raising awareness in access to cancer services by deprived communities for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
I am the co-founder of Crane, a design company specialising in cookware and home goods.
Favourite Pleasures: Exhibitions that make me think, American fiction and natural wine.
WHAT YOU LIKE ABOUT WHAT ORIEL DAVIES DOES:
Galleries are an important place in which to contemplate and think about life beyond its daily rituals. The Oriel Davies is an essential resource in a rural location such as Mid-Wales where such places are few and far between.
It would be great to develop links with local schools and residents to increase diversity and engagement with the gallery.
A FAVOURITE CULTURAL ARTIFACT:
My chosen object is the memory box. Unlike a photo album they have the multifaceted ability to treasure and store small objects of everyday use and inspiration which is both poetry and practicality rolled into one. They have traditionally been made from wood and you can find them in differing scales and levels of intricacy. I use Julien Renault’s ‘Cassetta’ for this purpose. Made in Italy by Mattiazzi from solid Ash it takes the form of two books resting upon one another.
