gimme shelter

Antonia Dewhurst

Test Bed | 7 July 2012 - 5 September 2012

'gimme shelter' is a series of micro-structures responding to the 18th Century Welsh tradition of ‘Ty Unnos’ or ‘One Night Home’.

This tradition proclaimed that if someone could build a house between sunset and sunrise on common land, the land would become theirs. These works explore the idea of ‘Home’ and feelings of belonging. To compliment her exhibition, the creation of a full scale ‘Ty Unnos’ in the parkland beside the gallery is planned by Dewhurst.

Antonia Dewhurst will also be undertaking an Artists Residency Tŷ Unnos or ‘One Night home’ constructed in the Newtown parkland adjacent to the gallery.

Exhibition Opening Saturday 21 July, 5-8pm

Antonia Dewhurst graduated in 2011 with a BA in Fine Art from Coleg Menai in Bangor. She is based in North Wales.
