Hand in hand is a community project co-produced by Oriel Davies Gallery and Syrian and Afghani families living in Newtown and surrounding areas.
The gallery and the families have been working together for over two years and this year the project is funded by the Alexandra Reinhardt Memorial Awards (ARMA) and supported by Engage.
The funding enables the gallery to work with lead Artist Nicky Arscott and Placement artist Karema Ahmed. Together they are delivering a series of workshops for children and young people.
Workshops encourage social connections and build confidence, involving children in a range of creative activities and connecting to nature. The workshops form part of our family days with a shared meal, music, dancing, conversation and play. These are joyous , noisy occasions that celebrate cultures and community cohesion.
