Indigo Dyeing Workshop
26/11/2022 1-4pm
Spend the afternoon dyeing an indigo scarf using Shibori techniques with Jeanette and Ellie Orrell
Jeanette Orrell is an artist based in mid-Wales, her practice is rooted in drawing and uses indigo to resist dye botanical images onto wool and linen. She also runs an online shop, where she sells antique clothing and handmade indigo items for everyday use. Ellie, her daughter, is the author of the book 'An Indigo Summer' - a memoir of learning to indigo dye with her mother in their Welsh hillside garden. They have been running indigo workshops together since 2018.
This workshop invites you to experience dyeing with indigo through making a Shibori bandana. The afternoon will be an opportunity to learn more about this ancient craft and the mindfulness of creativity.
There will be tea, coffee and homemade cakes included, alongside a copy of the book, An Indigo Summer (Calon 2022). Students are advised to wear dark/old clothing and bring an apron.
