“Are we innocent when we dream? - 6pm
Williams | Thorne | Holmes - 8pm
Williams | Thorne | Holmes is a new, exciting trumpet led trio. The trio format has long been an established format but this band pushes the boundaries of traditional jazz by bringing in influences from Welsh folk, minimialism and spiritual jazz. Tomos Williams (Trumpet) has worked internationally with the Indo-Welsh fusion group Khamira, inspired audiences with his thought provoking ‘Cwmwl Tystion’ projects and reimagined Traditional Welsh Folk music with ‘Burum’. Aidan Thorne (Double Bass) has worked with Williams for years, he leads his own ground- breaking band ‘Duski’ as well as exploring the Welsh landscape in duo projects with guitarists Toby Hay and Jason Ball. Matt Holmes is a rising star and one of the names to look out for on the UK jazz scene. Equally comfortable performing in small groups or driving big bands, composing new music or performing standards Matt has shared the stage with many jazz heavyweights such as Hermeto Pascoal and Tony Kofi and has toured internationally with harpist Alina Bzhezhinska.
“Tomos Williams... consolidates his reputation as one of the most restlessly creative and seriously gifted musicians in Wales...Williams’ trumpet work now similarly speaks of serious accomplishment and range but also of openness to experiment.” - Nation.cymru
“Aidan Thorne’s cascading notes on the bass were enough to give you pause, make you hold your breath. ” -Nation.cymru
“an unforgettable musical experience” **** -Ian Mann, Jazzmann Blog

“Are we innocent when we dream?” is a captivating blend of storytelling, puppetry, specially created soundscape, and a rich tapestry of myth and legend, this project delves into sleep and dream and is informed by the performer's lived experience of Narcolepsy.’
As this show will be a solo show, I wanted to make sure I was supporting my own mental health and access requirements.
The odd one-night stand sharing is exhausting and discombobulating. You give it your all and then you're gone. Then bam thank you mam.
I wanted to have more of a feeling of embedding myself in and getting to know a place and people.
Combining this feeling with the motion that other creative performers and particularly in rural communities don’t get a chance to come together and creatively explore.
So I would like to build a chance for local performers to share and play in a supportive environment.
I invite you to attend a creative workshop, exploring sleep, dreams and various performance techniques. Puppetry, shadow puppetry, storytelling and physical theatre.
Are we innocent when we dream? Creative Workshop
You would then be invited to create your own 5-minute piece to bring to a scratch night.
To be performed after my public show of “Are we innocent when we dream”
As the subject matter is dreams, we can do away with conventional ‘beginning, middle and end’. You might just create a glimpse, a hint, a surreal suggestion. Although I am interested in working with other performers this is an opportunity for those who would like to bring other art forms to a performance environment.
You might want to paint, draw or embroidery live on stage. Or bring your baskets, your ceramics, or sculptures to life, puppetry styley.
This project is funded by the Arts Council of Wales, and supported by Oriel Davies

Jo Munton is a sculptor by training and a puppeteer and storyteller by trade. She has performed internationally from Siberia to Spain, weaving in Welsh tales and language wherever she goes. She loves the hidden stories, the untold stories, that which lies beneath and beside, tales of transformation built on bedrock of humour and humility.
She is also a tour guide to creative adventures for many differing groups. Using puppetry, animation, drama games, lateral thinking exercises, fuzzy felt ( amongst other things ) as tools to increase group and individual creative confidence.
As a Dyslexic artist she saw the need for an increasing understanding of the various ways we think and feel so is currently studying on an in depth course exploring Neurodiversity in education.
Her latest Arts council supported show, “Are we innocent when we dream?” will delve into the realms of dream and nightmare from her unique perspective as a Narcoleptic ( a rare brain disorder that effects, amongst other things, sleep/wake patterns) She will be not only inviting people on a journey into the sleep worlds but also inviting some people to make their own mini performative responses. This is because she sees that performers in rural areas don’t get much chance to have a professional creative platforms to play with.
