Oasis One World Choir return to Newtown after an amazing visit in January 2024 when they were warmly welcomed by Hafren Community Choir and our wider community.
The choirs sang together and what came about was an extraordinary fusion of songs, languages and sounds. People shared their stories and made lasting connections. It was a rich experience for everyone involved. We knew then that we’d like to make it happen again.
We are very grateful to the Welsh Refugee Council for their funding as part of the Shaping Nations Project.
About the choirs Oasis One World Choir perform across Wales, the UK and Europe. “Through a journey of nearly 10 years, OOWC has been able to create unique and exciting music that culturally honours all those who add to it. Refugees are given a voice in their new community, promoting greater empathy and understanding of the issues they face – becoming role models for others’’ Tŷ Cerdd/ Music Centre Wales.
Hafren Community Choir is open to all and regularly rehearses and performs with Musical Director Charlotte Woodford of Smile My Music.
About the project Ein Lleisiau Hardd / Our Beautiful Voices “brings together communities across Wales through the powerful medium of song. Singing and song writing continue to be of key cultural and social importance in Wales. The language is melodic and lends itself to music and singing; it’s songs are loaded with emotion and love for the country - it’s landscape, traditions, culture and people. This musical connection to creativity and music as a shared global language makes for a perfect starting point for our project.” Kate Morgan-Clare Creative producer Oriel Davies
