Mindful workshops for adults

Would you like to improve your wellbeing?

Being in nature and working with our hands are both proven to support our mental and physical health. In this 8 week programme you will spend time outdoors in a supportive and friendly environment, meeting new people and learning new skills with local basketmaker Jeanette Gray of Weaving Wild

We will learn how to identify, sensitively harvest, prepare and work with a variety of plants. We will explore a range of traditional basketry techniques including twining, coiling and frame weaving to create unique and beautiful baskets. We hope to open your eyes to the craft possibilities that exist in every garden, hedgerow, riverside, bog and wasteland!

WORKSHOPS ARE FREE and suitable for all abilities, no previous experience needed. The pace of the sessions will be informal and relaxed, and we will provide comfortable outdoor seating around the campfire, plus teas and coffees. The workshop site is a short walk from the carpark along the flat- please get in touch to discuss any access requirements and we will do our best to support you to attend. SPACES ARE LIMITED SO PLEASE BOOK IN ADVANCE

Donations are welcomed to help keep these workshops free to all.

Weaving

About Jeanette Gray:

"I began weaving in 2012 when I attended my first willow basketry course- it was love at first basket! Since then I have completed a 2 year professional training in basketry from City Lit College in London.

"Although I am originally from Scotland, I now live in Machynlleth Mid Wales. I specialise in using wild materials gathered from the landscape, and use weaving as a way of engaging with individuals and various community groups who want to learn practical skills, connect to heritage and landscape and explore their relationship with the natural world.

I believe that weaving is a tactile way of approaching many of the issues that we face today, both as individuals and collectively. Not only is it of huge personal therapeutic value, but by working with foraged plants we come to experientially understand the value of our natural world and are inspired to care for it. Basketry also opens up new ways of connecting with our complex heritage- through the use of local materials combined with weaving techniques from all over the world, and skills handed down over thousands of years, we are able to explore ideas around home, place and land rights."
