caffi DAVIES cafe Windows

Artist Liv Bargman has created our first caffiDAVIEScafe window commission.

Bio

Liv is an illustrator originally from the Welsh borders. She graduated from Falmouth University in Illustration in 2008 and completed an MA Art & Science at Central St Martins in 2018.

There she explored and researched how illustration can help visualise speculative stories on soil microorganisms, including bio-remediating earthworms, and leafcutter ants that produce antibiotics! Liv’s Quantworm Mine project won the Biodesign Challenge in 2017 at MoMa (Museum of Modern Art) in New York, alongside team member interdisciplinary designer, Nina Cutler.

Liv is also a live scribe for various events.

Art is Everywhere is her debut book, published in September 2022 by Big Picture Press.

Selected clients - Aquila Magazine, Big Picture Press, Leo Burnett, Marie Curie, Nuffield Primary Care Health Sciences, Policy Lab Gov UK, Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration, Radio Netherlands, Tommy's Baby Charity.

About the artwork

The artwork on these windows features a mixture of images of local wildlife, some famous faces - the Davies sisters, and Robert Owen, plus some industrial buildings.

Also featured are patterns from the nearby Gregynog Hall building -the iconic black and white shapes on that panel the building, Welsh blanket patterns too. I have also included the topography of the area - local hills/landscapes and geology - Kerry forest, and the Ordovician and Silurian rocks of the area.

There is also a dragon, a nod to Welsh mythology and the story the Dragon of Radnor. The lines in the artwork represent material threads from the local mills/ the textiles industry of the area.
