Emerge: Billy Maxwell Taylor & Marla King

Warm Welcome

10 February 2024 - 10 February 2024

Emerge/Ymddangos is a dance and soundscape exploration of socio-ecological questionings. How we can navigate the underland of ourselves in order to emerge into the green shoots of hope?

Marla and Billy will explore the gallery spaces of Oriel Davies through Welsh field recordings, voiceover, ambient music and textural dance. They shall place questions throughout the space and will cultivate a space in which participants can slow down and journey into their own questions.

They also invite participants to a Dawn and Dusk practice, offering a gentle space of stillness in the busyness to start or end your day. This will include relaxing movement followed by free tea and a space to chat (or be in silence).

Billy Maxwell Taylor

Billy Maxwell Taylor is an interdisciplinary choreographer, soundscape artist and artistic leader of The Motion Pack. His practice offers space for stillness in the busyness, often giving time to contemplate on socio-ecological themes. He has previously worked with Span Arts, National Dance Company Wales, Richard Chappell Dance, Volcano Theatre and many other arts organisations across Wales, the UK and Europe.

Marla King

Marla King is a Welsh dance artist and climate justice advocate. She co-formed the Glanio collective in 2021. Through creative commissions and collaborative projects, Marla is continuing to explore the role that the arts, movement and embodiment can hold in strengthening ecological connection and understanding. She has previously worked with National Dance Company Wales, Jack Philp Dance, Richard Chappell Dance, Rhiannon Faith Company, Elisabeth Schilling, Sweetshop Revolution, Rendez-Vous Dance, Jones the Dance and more.
