Explore the stunning Renaissance painting Tobias and the Angel (1470 - 80).
The work, from the studio of Andrea del Vorrocchio is on loan from the National Gallery London from 2nd December 2022 - 5th March 2023 together with contemporary responses from Philip Eglin, Claire Curneen, Adam Buick, Cecile Johnson Soliz, Jacqui Poncelet, Beverley Bell Hughes, Christine Mills and Dewi Tannatt Lloyd.
Oriel Davies is working in partnership with the National Gallery London as part of the Masterpiece Tour, bringing works from the National Gallery's collection to communities around the UK. Entrance to this exhibition is free, donations towards continuing our work in the community are welcomed.
In this workshop Lois invites you to make studies directly from this incredible painting, its composition, techniques employed, palette and meanings.
We'll be combining this with figure drawing of a clothed model dressed in costume , sitting within a 'mis en scene' - a scene setting - with fabrics, furniture, everyday objects and plants.
The workshops encourages participant to take a holiday from their style, trying out new styles to broaden their creative range.

About Lois
Lois trained in Fine Art at Newcastle University. Drawing is at the heart of her work. In 2009 Lois’s work featured in Re:drawing at Oriel Davies and in 2010 she won the ING Drawing prize at the Mall Galleries, London. She has an MA in Screen Design from the National Film and Television School (RCA), and combines these two disciplines in her large scale landscape drawings. She exhibits regularly and runs workshops in Mid Wales and the borders.
