This exhibition brings together the paintings and short stories of Huwco Jones where the traditional roles are flipped: here, the prose illustrates the art. This reversal offers a guided tour through the artist's creative mind. The scenery so familiar to Huwco becomes inhabited by extraordinary characters drawn from his unshackled imagination.

The artist has shown throughout the UK and beyond and has six paintings in the Welsh National Collection. One of the works from this series is being shown at this year's National Eisteddfod.

We are delighted to welcome Huwco to Oriel Davies for a forthcoming exhibition of new work. Huwco's distinctive painting practice creates rich and evocative worlds in which landscape, memory, myth and imagination intertwine.

This exhibition continues Oriel Davies' ongoing exploration of the relationship between art and writing, and the ways that stories emerge through visual practice. At the heart of the exhibition is The Grey Man, a character and narrative presence that has gradually surfaced from Huwco's paintings themselves. Rather than illustrating a pre-existing story, the works give rise to one—allowing The Grey Man to emerge from the painted landscape as both witness and guide.

Through painting, drawing and narrative, Huwco invites us into a world where image and text meet, and where the act of looking becomes inseparable from the act of storytelling. We look forward to sharing this compelling new chapter in our programme and to welcoming audiences into the imaginative realm that Huwco has created.
