Sharing my research, experience, practice and drawing techniques.
Artist Deborah Dalton will lead a wheelchair-accessible walk and guided drawing session around Newtown.
Beginning with an introduction to my work and process, as we make our way to our first stopping point. Guided drawing sessions we will explore the nature of perception and ways of seeing
Deborah's research practice and process is driven by her light sensitivity and neurodiverse experience of a dislocated moving world of lines, rhythms and patterns.
Questioning the phenomenology of perception her drawings become a pure narrative of experience.
Phenomenologist Merleau-Ponty explained we proceed through life oblivious to the controlling nature of our senses, becoming disconnected from our experience of ‘the physical world’ we inhabit. He argues that in order to reconnect with ‘ordinary experience’ we need to somehow get detached, sideways in order to acknowledge and understand our experiences. Merleau-Ponty et al, 2010, p.15).
Deborah uses her experiences as a tool to gain a sideways look at ‘seeing’ and collect and collate perceptions to reconnect with an ‘ordinary experience’ free from the controlling nature of the senses.
