The Drawing Room

Working in collaboration with artists and the public, Oriel Davies Gallery is creating The Drawing Room, a curiously inviting room assembled from found, collected, customized and bespoke objects. Everyday items from sofas, cabinets and tables, to books, soft furnishings and ornaments will be created and redefined.

From 22 October to the 25 February 2017 The Drawing Room will be a multi-use space - an artist studio, boutique cinema, stage set, newsroom... A place for ideas, where discussion, learning, creativity and play will be encouraged. A space for hanging out and entertaining friends – Newtown’s living room in an art gallery.

Oriel Davies Gallery invites residents, schools, voluntary groups, established and emerging artists to get involved, contribute, make use of and experience The Drawing Room. The following opportunities will be promoted through open calls and online discussion in the lead up to opening in October:

• Contribute on facebook to The Drawing Room conversation

Play

• Hold an event (e.g. scratch night, music recital…)
• Create an interest or discussion group (e.g. crochet club, book group, script reading…)

• Craft material collections

The Drawing Room is part of Open Space, Oriel Davies Gallery’s two-year pilot project that runs from March 2016 to March 2018. In both years, Open Space will present a broad platform of cultural activity from October to January/February, which will run alongside the Gallery's existing exhibition and learning programmes.
