Role Description for Volunteers at Oriel Davies Gallery
Purpose of volunteer roles
To support paid staff in the art gallery and shop and assist with artist workshops.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of tasks linked to running a busy arts organisation. At times they will work alongside staff to take care of artworks, the exhibitions and visitors. They will be part of the public face of Oriel Davies Gallery and they will welcome visitors and enhance their experience. Volunteers will assist retail staff with all day-to-day aspects of stocking and running our specialist shop which sells artworks, gifts and homeware, art supplies, jewellery, cards and books. Volunteers may support an artist and gallery staff as they lead a creative workshop session with members of the public, online, in the exhibition spaces or outside in the natural environment.

Oriel Davies is positive about helping individuals to develop their potential. Volunteers will be fully supported by gallery staff throughout their training.
The gallery is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 12-5pm. Please let us know which days and times you are available to volunteer in your Volunteer Application form.
Volunteers’ travel expenses to and from the gallery can be supported. Please see the expenses policy for details.
Oriel Davies Gallery is an environment that is family-friendly, physically accessible and ideal for everyone to experience world-class, contemporary art. In our aim to give all visitors a high-quality experience, we are looking for individual volunteers who are open-minded, friendly and helpful and who believe in making art galleries inclusive spaces for everyone to enjoy. Our volunteers should be happy to talk about the gallery and the work on show when asked. Volunteers should be prepared to be flexible, to accommodate visitor and gallery needs. A sense of responsibility and reliability is vital when volunteering and ideally, we ask volunteers to make a regular time commitment, to do their best to keep to their schedule and whenever possible, let us know in advance if they can’t. A keen interest in art would help to make volunteering at Oriel Davies a really valuable experience for you.
