Tracy Simpson
I am an artist, researcher and curatorial professional andthe Co-director of Addo Creative (Addo) which I established with my colleague Sarah Pace in 2011. Addo is a not-for-profit visual arts organisation working with artists, communities, private, public and voluntary sector partners to curate and manage critically situated art projects in the public realm. Previously I was the Senior Project Manager for Safle, the public art agency for Wales and the Director of Wrexham Arts Centre.
I am currently studying for a PhD at Glyndwr University in partnership with Ty Pawb looking at the nature of collaborative curatorial practice. I currently teach on the MA Art & Design at Glyndwr University.
WHAT YOU LIKE ABOUT ORIEL DAVIES
I’ve always found it to be one of Wales’ friendliest venues. The light and airy building is perfect for showing artworks of all kinds and is in a lovely setting. It’s a joy to visit.
A FAVOURITE CULTURAL ARTIFACT
My favourite object is a simple wooden animal that for many years lived on my grandparent’s fireplace. It’s obviously handmade and so perfunctorily done that to this day I’m not sure whether it’s meant to be a bear or a dinosaur. However, it’s intriguing, sits well in a hand and now lives above my fireplace.
