Nature based volunteering opportunity

We are looking for a volunteer to help with our community wellbeing weaving workshops

Oriel Davies and basket maker Jeanette Gray of Weaving Wild are collaboration on a series of six weaving workshops based in Newtown's parkland. We have an opportunity for a rewarding voluntary role to support these wonderful workshops.

The role would suit someone with an interest in traditional crafts, or simply looking to gain experience of working in the outdoors and with community groups. Due to the nature of the role, a reasonable level of physical fitness is required.The main responsibilities will include (with full training given):

  • Helping to set up and pack down - carrying equipment, hanging tarps etc
  • Campcraft- chopping wood, firelighting, boiling water for teas and coffees
  • Making participants feel welcome
  • Helping to foster an inclusive learning environment

There will be the opportunity to take part in all activities, which will focus on basketry using wild materials.

Dates 20th, 27th July and the 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th August

Timings sessions will run 1.45 - 4pm, with 30 minutes set up and pack-down either side, so you will be needed 12.15 pm - 4.30pm

A short volunteer induction and necessary training will be given.

Gallery volunteers have access to Tempo Time Credits. You can register and then gain credits for any volunteering at the gallery that can be used across the UK for events, experiences and more.
