Opportunities: Associate Artist & Volunteer Coordinator

2020 has been an incredibly challenging year for everyone.

We received a COVID Cultural Recovery Fund grant from the Arts Council of Wales in 2020. We want to use this to improve diversity and equalities, to provide opportunities for individual artists and to address environmental sustainability.

At Oriel Davies we have the following principles:

  • To embrace diverse communities and promote equalities as the foundation of a clear commitment to reach and engage more widely and deeply.
  • To provide generosity of access to art and culture and unlock hidden talent.
  • Be part of a system of societal and institutional change by working together for mutual benefit to our community and the environment.
  • Be entrepreneurial in spirit, strengthening our capability and resilience, enabling creative talent to thrive, working more efficiently, and collaborating more imaginatively with like-minded partners across Wales and beyond.

In a small town, in a rural county, we recognise the intersectionality whereby we can achieve our principles. We respect people and all aspects of their identity. We have the following flexible paid opportunities, which we particularly encourage applications from people in all sectors of our community:

Associate Artist (12 months Freelance, Part-time, Flexible):

A freelance artist opportunity to join the team at Oriel Davies from January 2021 for 12 months. We want to provide freelancers with a regular income stream to support them through the pandemic. The role will be to influence and inform our team, our board and our audience, supporting our core work and values, to develop new work in response to our programme, our aims and our vision. To facilitate small scale, outdoor / online conversations to explore how the gallery fits into people’s lives and to explore key ideas relating to tackling rural isolation, what’s the future for young people in Powys, developing a disability action plan that includes culture, beyond #BLM how can the gallery support people of colour in our community, What Climate Emergency? Sustainability and you! The role of the individual in protecting our environment for future generations.

The artist will be fully integrated within the team and the gallery will highlight their potential and support their ambitions.

Volunteer Coordinator (Freelance, Powys based for part-time flexible 3 months Jan-Mar initially) with potential for extension subject to additional funding:
We’re looking for someone who wants to gain experience and contribute to their community. We need a community motivator, to gather volunteers from all of our community to support the gallery during some exciting exhibitions taking place in 2021 and beyond. You’ll develop a volunteer programme and handbook and bring all generations together to kickstart our volunteer programme. You will also seek funding for activities.

These activities all support artists and freelancers directly and support our engagement, embedding us into our communities improving the lives of our audience, artists and freelancers. To discuss these opportunities further please email steffan@orieldavies.org
