River Songs

River Songs is an exciting partnership of voices, people, cultures and artforms brought together in response to the work of artist Carolina Caycedo on show at the gallery as part of Artes Mundi 10.

Carolina Caycedo is a multidisciplinary artist known for her videos, artist’s books, sculptures, and installations that examine environmental and social issues.

Artes Mundi 10 (AM10) is the UK’s leading biennial exhibition and international contemporary art prize. In 2023 and 2024 Artes Mundi is presenting seven international contemporary visual artists across five venue partners in Wales for its tenth anniversary edition.

The gallery is working in partnership with Hafren and Llanidloes Community Choirs led by Charlotte Woodford, artist Erin Hughes and young people from Credu Young Carers.

Working with these wonderful community organisations has revealed their commitment to the communities they serve and their generous and supportive approach ethos.

Outcomes from the project include:

- workshops with young people from Credu and artist Erin Hughes where young people met for the first time and cemented the beginnings of a support group;

- A repertoire of songs about the natural world; unity and the power of collective protest;

- Informal choir performances for Credu young people;

- A performance at Theatre Hafren with live visual DJ’ing from a Credu member, Hafren and Llanidloes Community Choirs

- A weekend of singing, sharing meals and making connections with Oasis one world Choir, Cardiff, Credu Hafren and Llanidloes Community Choirs and the Newtown Syrian Supper Club.

Huge gratitude to all involved and to Artes Mundi for their financial support
