Community group creates planter for pollinating insects
The planter is attractive and planted with sensory and medicinal plants and herbs for the whole community to enjoy
A grant from Newtown Town Council’s community fund has enabled Oriel Davies Gallery to create a beautiful plant habitat for bees and other pollinating insects. Working with members of The Shed at Pen-Dinas, community gardeners and volunteers the gallery created a brief for a sustainably built planter. Inspired by the Italian designer Enzo Mari members of The Shed and project coordinator Frank Corfield have created a multi-level planter with water feature made from reclaimed timber, metal and composite. The gallery’s Community Gardener Mel Chandler and volunteers have filled the 3 x 1m planter with a mini garden of pollinators. The mix of plants will attract a range of insects and birds and will in time create its own eco-system. The water feature is also very important for attracting wildlife.
The planter is attractive and planted with sensory and medicinal plants and herbs for the whole community to enjoy - for passers-by and visitors to the gallery. Mayor Mike Childs joined community members to view the planter.
